Submission to the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee on how to proceed with the Afghanistan Crisis
After the Taliban’s gained power in August 2021, the Australian government took an active response to the crisis and evacuated over 4000 people. Unfortunately, following the initial evacuation the Australian government stalled and struggled to proceed with further action.
In response, the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee formed an action group on this crisis. This committee asked organisations within the sector to provide submissions, offering advice as to how the government should proceed. The following submission outlines our recommendations, with this in line with those of the Refugee Council of Australia.
